Information stored on your iPhone
Beforeat stores your meal records and photos, profile and dietary information, nutrition goals, app preferences, and reminder settings on your iPhone.
If you add an AI-provider API key, it is stored in this iPhone’s secure Keychain and is not included in iCloud sync.
Meal-photo analysis
When you use an on-device AI engine, your meal photos are analyzed on your iPhone and are not sent to an external AI provider.
If you choose Gemini, GLM, or Qwen, the selected meal photo is sent to that provider for analysis using your API key. Beforeat asks for permission before the first transfer. The provider processes the photo under its own privacy policy and terms.
Beforeat may send a food name and serving information—not your meal photo or Apple Health data—to nutrition-data services to improve nutrition estimates.
Apple Health
Apple Health integration is optional. If enabled, Beforeat may read and write dietary energy, protein, carbohydrates, and total fat to keep your meal diary aligned with the Health app.
Beforeat does not use Apple Health information for advertising, marketing, data mining, or sale, and does not send it to AI providers or other third parties. You can review or revoke access in the Health app or iPhone Settings.
iCloud sync
When you choose Sync with iCloud, your meal records, meal photos, profile, dietary information, and nutrition goals are stored in your private iCloud database so they can be restored and kept up to date across your devices. AI-provider API keys and Apple Health data are not included.
Camera, photos, location, and notifications
Camera and photo-library access is used only when you take or select a meal photo. If automatic food-market selection is enabled, location is used to choose a relevant regional food database. Notifications are used only for meal reminders you enable.
Beforeat does not use these permissions for advertising or tracking. You can change them at any time in iPhone Settings.
Retention and deletion
Information remains on your iPhone until you delete individual meals or remove the app. If you use iCloud sync, synced information remains in your private iCloud database until it is deleted there. Information written to Apple Health can be reviewed and deleted in the Health app.
You can withdraw permissions in iPhone Settings or the Health app. Removing a third-party AI API key stops future use of that provider.
Your choices
On-device AI, Apple Health, iCloud sync, location, notifications, and third-party AI providers are optional. Beforeat does not sell your personal information or use health information for advertising, marketing, or user profiling.
